"Organoids as Drug Testing Platforms"
Assoc. Prof. Sinan Güven got his PhD on Tissue Engineering and Stem Cells from University of Basel, Switzerland. He has B.S in Chemistry and M.S in Biotechnology both from Middle East Technical University, Turkey. During his PhD he worked on engineering large scale vascularised bone grafts with human adipose tissue derived stromal cells. He has expertise on adult stem cells, their differentiation and utilisation in clinical trials. Dr Güven's postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital was focused on engineering 3D models for bottom-up tissue engineering using assembly technologies and microfluidic systems. He developed model systems, recapitulating physiological responses of tissues and organs for regenerative and personalised medicine. Dr Güven worked at Stanford University where he applied bioengineering tools to design novel microenvironments for stem cell research. In May 2015 he joined Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center as group leader of Therapeutic Bioengineering Lab. Currently his work utilise OMICS technologies with pluripotent stem cell based oganoids and assembloids towards generating on-chip disease models.
